About Direct Debits

It appears you have ‘Compatibility View’ turned on, and as a result some features may not work correctly. Please switch it off for a better experience.

Please note that if you use the browser navigation buttons (back, forward, refresh) your information may be lost and your submission may be unsuccessful.

Please also note that this session will automatically expire if you are inactive for 10 minutes.

Payments made by direct debit are debited automatically from your bank account and can be cancelled at any time. We will always tell you 10 working days in advance of the amount to be debited and any changes made to it.
By choosing this payment method, you will automatically be protected by the Direct Debit guarantee scheme and if we make a mistake with your payments, you will get a full refund.

To set up your Direct Debit online you will need:

  • bank or building society name
  • bank account number
  • sort code
  • business rates account number

A revised bill, which details your payments, will be sent to you within 3 working days or no later than 10 working days before the first payment collection date. There is no extra charge in choosing to pay by this method.

If you change your mind or want more information, please get in touch.

The payment date for business rates Direct Debit is always the first day of the month.
  • If you have a new business rates account, the cost is spread over the maximum number of payment dates left in the current financial year up to and including March. This takes into account the 10 working days' notice that we have to give you.
  • If you are an existing business changing to Direct Debit, the instalment dates will be the same as in your original plan.
  • For the next full year's rates bill, payments will be over 10 months from 1 April to 1 January.
